Why the stepper motor do not rotate reversely

Some customers feedback that the stepper motor is running normally within regular rotation, but the reverse rotation is abnormal during use. The reasons are as follows:

  1. The pulse control command output by the controller used by the user is double-pulse mode, while the receiving control pulse command mode used by the driver is single-pulse mode. Solutions: 1. Changing the pulse output mode of the controller to single-pulse output mode , that is, control pulse + direction mode; 2. Selecting a stepper driver that could receive double pulse control mode, ie CW + CCW mode, such as Noke's NDM852C. Most of the stepper drivers on the market use the single-pulse receive mode.

  2. The control signal output by the controller is 12~24VDC, while the designed working voltage of the control signal interface of the stepper driver is generally +5VDC.

In order to simplify the wiring and improve the reliability of the wiring when the control signal of the controller  is 12~24VDC( PLC etc.) Noke's NDM series digital stepper driver has introduced a special wiring interface for the 12~24VDC control signal. Users do not need to connect the limiting resistor in use, but only need to directly connect the corresponding control signal line to the corresponding interface, as shown in the following figure:

3. To confirm whether the direction signal line is effectively connected, most stepper drivers default to the forward rotation signal when the direction signal is not connected. If the direction signal is not effectively connected, it will only rotate in one direction. If the user manually gives a direction signal to the driver, if the motor still does not reverse at this time, it can be judged that the direction signal interface of the driver may be damaged or the control signal given by the controller is a double-pulse control signal.
